The Orcas Island Writers Festival is dedicated to fostering community among readers and writers. Set on Orcas Island in Washington's beautiful San Juan Islands, our four-day annual festival offers writing workshops in fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry and playwriting; morning and afternoon classes; and evening readings by our talented, award-winning team of instructors and visiting presenters.

Our 2009 festival will be held September 17-20. We are pleased to welcome Jody Gladding, Matthew Goodman, Diane Lefer, Ellen Lesser, Deb Lund and Nance Van Winckel as instructors. What is your cancellation and refund policy? Cancellations are subject to cancellation fees depending on ticket type and date of cancellation. Please see table below for more information. Please note that Eventbrite service fees are not refundable. To cancel, you must contact OIWF by email. You cannot process your cancellation through the Eventbrite registration page.

What is the registration deposit? The Festival Package requires a $100 registration deposit with the remainder due August 17. The Festival Three-Day Admission Ticket requires a $50 registration deposit with the remainder due August 17. The Festival One-Day Admission Ticket and the Pre-Festival Kid Lit Critiques Workshop must be paid in full at time of registration.

How can I buy single-night tickets to Evening Events at the Orcas Center? Single-event ticket purchases are only available at the Orcas Center Box Office. (See our website for a link to Orcas Center.) Ticket cost is $10 each evening. 

What are the gourmet lunches? Our gourmet lunches are prepared by our Island Chef, Bill Patterson, using fresh, local ingredients whenever possible. A vegetarian option will be available. You can purchase your Gourmet Lunches as part of your Festival Package or on their own. Lunches are available on Friday and Saturday and cost $14 each. You must pre-order your lunch by September 10.

What is the Farewell Dinner with Authors? To complete our festival, we are inviting all participants to join our faculty on Sunday for a special farewell dinner. Island Chef Bill Patterson will prepare the dinner, using fresh, local ingredients whenever possible. A vegetarian option will be available.

When is Early Bird Registration? Early Bird Registration is April 25–June 5, 2009.

When does regular registration end? If you are participating in a workshop, you must register by August 25, 2009. If you are not participating in a workshop, you may register as late as the days you plan to attend; however, as class space is limited, we strongly recommend you pre-register for classes.

What does the Festival Package include? The Festival Package ($365; $335 Early Birds) includes one 3-day workshop and all classes, seminars and evening events. Sign-up for classes is recommended. Manuscript submission for workshop participation is due August 25. We will email you a detailed schedule after registration. (The package can be purchased with or without 2 lunches included.)  

What does the Festival Three-Day Admission Ticket include? The Festival Three-Day Admission Ticket ($165; $125 Early Birds) includes all classes, seminars and evening events. Sign-up for classes is recommended. We will email you a detailed schedule after registration.  (Lunches may be pre-purchased separately.)

What does the Festival One-Day Admission Ticket include? The Festival One-Day Admission Ticket ($65; $50 Early Birds) includes classes, seminars and evening events for the day of admission. Available for Friday, Saturday and/or Sunday. Sign-up for classes is recommended. We will email you a detailed schedule after registration.

How can I select a workshop and classes? Depending on your ticket type, you will be asked your workshop and class selections on the next registration page. Class size is limited, so pre-registration is strongly recommended.
